Instrument Test Performance Improving 2nd Quarter 2013 CSITC ROUND TRIAL COMPLETED

Date Posted: 02 Jul, 2013
The 2013-2 Round Trial under the auspices of the Task Force on Commercial Standardization of Instrument Testing of Cotton (CSITC Task Force) was conducted during the second quarter of 2013.
Eighty-four testing facilities from all continents submitted results from 129 instruments. When the season variation in participation by laboratories in the Southern Hemisphere is considered, participation in the Round Trials is continuing to climb.
The 2013-2 evaluation was the best ever, with a combined evaluation result of 0.44 (0.0 would be perfect), compared with an average result over previous Round Trials of 0.50.  For micronaire and especially strength, labs are showing consistently lower variation and better evaluation results than in the first years of the Round Trials.
Round Trials serve to improve cotton instrument testing worldwide by providing detailed, confidential, diagnostic results to each participating laboratory. Participating labs do not receive grades or pass/fail results.
Information about CSITC and a general summary of Round Trial results (information for individual laboratories is confidential) are available at:
The next meeting of the Task Force on CSITC is scheduled for Wednesday, October 2, 2013, in Cartagena, Colombia. The Task Force governs all aspects of the work of CSITC, including the conduct of the Round Trials. Observers are welcome at CSITC meetings. Please notify the ICAC Secretariat of your interest in attending to receive an invitation and agenda (
