ICAC Executive Director briefs World Trade Organization members on cotton developments
José Sette, Executive Director of the International Cotton Advisory Committee, made two presentations at the World Trade Organization on November 23rd. At a meeting of the 6th Dedicated Discussion of the Relevant Trade-related Developments On Cotton, Mr. Sette briefed WTO members on the latest developments in the supply and demand for cotton. In addition, he provided information on government support measures to the world cotton sector and on decisions taken during the recent ICAC Plenary Meeting, with emphasis on the need to counter the threat posed by man-made fibers to demand for cotton, as well as the desire of ICAC members to harmonize and streamline phytosanitary regulations affecting the international trade of cotton. Earlier on the same day, Mr. Sette made a presentation on recent trends in cotton production during the 26th Round of the Director General’s Consultative Framework Mechanism on Cotton.
