Lihan Wei to Serve as 9th Statistician

Lihan Wei joined the Secretariat on October 5, 2017 and took over the responsibilities as Statistician with immediate effect replacing Rebecca Pandolph who left in August 2017 to take up another appointment.
Ms. Wei is the 9th Statistician in the history of the Secretariat, following David Murray (1951 – 1980), Tom Bell (1980 – 1987), Terry Townsend (1987 – 1998), Ioannis Kaltsas (1999 – 2000), Gérald Estur (2000 – 2005), Armelle Gruère (Juanuary 2005 – 2013), Caterina Au (January 2013 – October 2013) and Rebeca Pandolph (October 2013 – August 2017).
Ms. Wei is a U.S. citizen; she has recently returned to the US from Paris where she was employed as a Statistician in the Trade and Agricultural Directorate of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and where she previously was employed as a Research Assistant between 2005-2010. In addition, between 2010-2011, she worked as an Editor for Medi-Science, a medical science news agency based in Beijing. She has experience across a diverse number of global research projects including agriculture and innovation and is adept at statistical technique design, conducting and coordinating research, developing statistical and survey methodologies, policy analysis, and evidence-based research.
Ms. Wei has a M.A. in International Relations and Diplomacy from the American Graduate School, Paris; a Master of Public Health in Health Policy and a B.A in Natural Sciences and Behavioural Biology both from Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, MD. She is proficient in English, French and Mandarin.
